Conseguenze ecologiche di molteplici stress nel fiume San Lorenzo

Decreasing water level together with increasing nutrient and pesticide inputs from agriculture and urbanization are changing the St. Lawrence River ecosystem and the services it provides. In particular, aquatic plants are reduced and partly replaced by the benthic cyanobacterium Lyngbya wollei. Consequently, we observed cascading effects on invertebrates and fish recruitment. We are presently studying the effects of agricultural tributaries on chemistry, aquatic flora and fauna under different hydrological conditions.
